The Women’s Right to Land Project was a twinning initiative between BENAA Foundation in Egypt and Masarat Nissaiya Association in Tunisia. The project aimed to collect and document the stories of rural women in both countries, focusing on their experiences with land inheritance and ownership within their communities. In addition to storytelling, the project built the capacities of participating women by educating them on their rights under both national law and Sharia, while also exploring ways to support their economic empowerment.
Through the project, we successfully trained 40 women in Egypt and 40 in Tunisia, equipping them with the tools to advocate for their land rights. As a result, we produced a policy paper that outlines the current situation in both countries and provides actionable recommendations to strengthen women’s access to land. The project also culminated in a documentary film, capturing personal stories that highlight the shared challenges and resilience of rural women across Egypt and Tunisia.
